Okami is often lauded for its paintbrush, sumi-e aesthetic, and it turns out that official digital art based on Capcom’s 2006 hit looks just as gorgeous. In collaboration with Cook & Becker, an Amsterdam, Netherlands-based art gallery and distributor, Capcom has released limited edition prints of the game’s artwork.
Available at Cook & Becker’s website starting at $80, the prints feature Okami protagonist Amaterasu, the sun god incarnate as a white wolf. Many of the prints are the work of character designers and artists Takeyasu Sawaki, known for his work on Devil May Cry and El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron, as well as Kenichiro Yoshimura and Mari Shimazaki, whose credits include Bayonetta and Soul Calibur.
To learn more about Cook & Becker, here’s a helpful video on the work it does to move art from concept to print. The studio works with artists to pin down things like color contrast as the artwork transfers from computer monitor to paper, and then ships the art to customers unframed, framed in wood, or with an Acrylic glass finish.
