Video Game Record Curator Twin Galaxies Comes Under New Management

Jace Hall, known for his work on a handful of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment games and star of the web series The Jace Hall Show, is the newly declared "head custodian and caretaker" of Twin Galaxies.

Twin Galaxies was founded more than 30 years ago by Walter Day, who famously wears a referee shirt while monitoring high-score attempts and appeared in the film King of Kong, but ownership transferred to a pair of arcades in 2012. On Friday, hall posted a large letter on the Twin Galaxies website offering his intentions for the record keeper. "I believe that Twin Galaxies is not only just an important part of video game history, but also critical to the video game industry’s future relevancy and overall participant/player credibility," Hall wrote, "I would like the community to know that there is a thought-out and strategic long term plan for success with this, rest assured. Twin Galaxies will be meaningful, relevant and exciting once more."

When the previous owners took over, a controversial plan was put forward to charge those attempting to set records for refereeing services. In response to that plan, Hall wrote, "As long as Jace Hall is the Head Custodian and Caretaker of Twin Galaxies, Twin Galaxies will never be charging for score submissions or adjudication ever again. Period." Hall also promises to reinstate the Twin Galaxies website, which went down last year, in the next month.

Our Take
In his web series, Jace Hall goes to great lengths to broadcast his appreciation of video games and video game culture, just as he does in his announcement letter. It seems like Hall wants to make Twin Galaxies as important an aspect of video game culture as it once was, and it seems like he has the motivation to do it.
